A pleasant Easter weekend
“He has risen! He has risen indeed!”
Our pastor actually did this traditional declaration/response in our very contemporary church this weekend. I loved it!
Anyway, we had a good weekend. Most of our Easter celebration fell on Saturday. The kids went to their grandparents house to color Easter eggs and do the traditional hunt with their cousins.

Jack proudly displays his masterpiece.
We went to Saturday night Easter service, and then had a lazy Sunday. Both kids slept in until (gasp!) 8:30. Abby actually didn’t make any Easter peep until close to 10:00. After breakfast (although technically I think it should be considered brunch) the kids opened up presents from us and Grandma Karen and Papa Tom. Then Tim hung up a swing on the back porch and the kids took turns enjoying that. We capped the evening with some popcorn and an iChat with my parents. Jack was a wiggle worm - he gets so hyped up seeing himself on the computer! But Abby sat still with the help of a big bowl of popcorn.

Earlier this week Abby helped me with the chores. She also loves to unload all the silverware from the dishwasher. This is particularly helpful when they’re clean.

Study shows that family-friendly movies make more money
I was looking around for some movie information and stumbled across this article. They did a study for 15 years in total and it basically shows that the more family friendly a film is, the more profitable it is.

New iMac thoughts
The new iMac is pretty intriguing as well. With the built in camera it seems like a great living room system. It could be extremely clean with a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse—the only cord would be for power. I must admit I’m sorely tempted and maybe one will show up on the doorstep soon. One can only hope that Apple will push Front Row out the door for use on other systems soon. It could eventually make a slightly more powerful Mac mini (we need more powerful software video decoding or perhaps just a hardware assist) the ultimate home media center.
Thoughts on Apple’s announcements today
I was certainly disappointed at first because I was planning on buying whatever new p0wErMAC they came out with (assuming that it was a significant speed bump over the dual 2.7). I was also considering a laptop upgrade. I guess if Apple wants to help me save some money for awhile that’s fine by me though.
In the end though I think I’m stoked. The groundwork they’re laying is quite promising and the video interface is clean, looks really great and just rules. The disappointing thing is the video quality. I bought a couple of music videos which is certainly something I normally would never do (MTV and the like have been placed in the channels I don’t receive list) just to test the whole thing out. Having done so, I think I would enjoy watching and having some of these videos enough to go ahead and purchase more except for the fact that they’re tiny and they look pretty crappy blown up full screen. Yes, I know it’s for the iPod Video or whatever but I’m *far* more interested in the potential of using it as a home media center. My only hope is that with the groundwork being there that I’ll be able to rip my own stuff and utilize their playback engine and controls.
Also, hopefully the TV shows are higher quality because I am not going to spend money on a 2x2 picture when I can catch it on TiVo in full hi-def glory. On the other hand I’ve theorized in the past that I would prefer to simply subscribe to the shows I like so if they get this right eventually then I could see myself completely dumping DirecTV altogether.
On the quality thing—I can’t tell the difference for the most part with AAC but I can tell a big difference with the video that I’ve seen so far.
Anyway, I like where they’re trying to go at least. Hopefully they’ll get there faster though. I want the equivalent of an iPod for my home theater.
Keeping up to date
I find that I’m tired of sending various thoughts to different friends and email lists so I’ve decided that I need to publish here. That way anyone that’s really interested in things can simply check here. To me, that’s the best use of blogging—I can have all of my friends in an RSS newsreader like NetNewsWire and get a quick look at what’s happening in their lives and what’s on their minds.

RSS/Atom Problem
All 1 of you that actually use an RSS or ATOM reader to check up on this page probably noticed that my RSS feed was broken. It was caused by a PHP upgrade that my service provider did for security reasons that broke some backwards compatibility in PHP. Now that I noticed that it was broken, it’s been fixed.

Some new pictures
I’m not happy with the fact that Expression Engine’s (the software that drives this site) photo gallery doesn’t correctly sort files when batch importing photos so I just posted my latest pictures to .Mac.
It’s just less hassle than uploading files 1 by 1 to get the sort order correct. The pictures are here. If you want to see them you’ll have to drop me an email for the password. Once you have the password, I won’t change it so any future pictures I put there will be the same one.

New Firewire CF Reader
I bought a new Lexar CompactFlash Reader the other day. It rocks!! It’s really fast and it’s tiny. It hands down beats any other card reader I’ve ever owned. Make sure you get the one depicted (RW019-001). They have an older model that stinks. I think I’ll get another one for my camera bag.
I also needed a bigger USB thumb drive so I picked up the Lexar 1G USB 2.0 JumpDrive. It’s a very nice little buy as well.

Our daughter was born!!
Our daughter was born last Friday, June 17th at 3:57 PM. She was 8 pounds, 4 ounces and 20 1/4 inches long. Pictures are up in the photo gallery.
It’s here!!
I’ve been working on this for a long time—maybe 8 months or so. Of course most of that was a lot of work at the beginning and a lot in the last week. Somehow I was just really busy with other things in between.
Anyway, there’s not much content up yet, but I’m sure that I’ll be adding a lot more pictures as I go. The site is mostly done but I’m sure I’ll be tweaking it here and there in the coming months.
Registration will be required for access to pictures and any other media. We’d love to share it with you—we just want to know who you are!!
I hope that this turns into a good site for information about what we’re up to and how our family is doing as well as what’s on our minds.
