Train Wreck

Happy Halloween!

Okay, this isn’t Halloween-ish, but I think it’s pretty funny.  This is a little motorized train stuck in Abby’s hair.  She’s not supposed to play with it by herself, and this is one good reason why!  When Tim and I heard her screech, we ran down the hall to find her in this predicament.  She had turned on the motor and zoomed it around, right up onto her noggin.  The train quickly sucked her hair right up.  It reminded me of how I used to do this with the hairdryer when I was younger.

We got it out just fine, with a little patience.  But I don’t think she’ll be giving train rides on her head anymore.

I’ll post about Halloween tomorrow after getting some good pictures of the kids today.  So far we’ve painted pumpkins and enjoyed a trip to Carl’s Jr., thanks to Grandma Karen and Papa Tom who gave the kids gift certificates for Halloween.  Uncle Ron and Aunt Suzanne sent cards and a treat all the way from Oregon, too.  Tonight we’re going to a church festival with the cousins.  The kids can’t wait to dress up!  You’ll have to tune in tomorrow to see what they chose to be!  =)

A Fun Visit!

My parents came to our house for the weekend and we had a great time visiting with them!  They usually make the drive from Visalia after work on a Friday night and then leave Sunday morning around 10:00.  I feel like my Mom and I chatted nonstop this weekend and I loved it!  The weekend flew by too fast.  She has such good insight on how to teach our children and was such an encouragement to me this weekend.  And of course, the kids love seeing their grandparents!  When Jack did his goodnight rounds, I was passed by as he gave his Grandma a hug and kiss.

On Saturday we went to the pumpkin patch.  The kids enjoyed the petting zoo, a couple rides, and picking out their own pumpkins.  It was fun to watch the kids have a good time.  We were all impressed at how brave the kids were with the animals this year - Abby chased some chickens around for quite awhile!

Enjoying the rides!  Last year Jack just wanted to watch, but this year he had a great time participating.  He even got the spinning wheel going on his own…can you tell that Abby adores her brother?  smile

Friends, Puffy Pumpkins and Pomegranates

Here are several pictures from the past few weeks to catch you up on what we’ve been doing!

This past Friday night, Eric and Heidi came over with their three children.  We had such a good time with them!  Tim and Eric knew each other from Biola, and I really enjoyed getting to know Heidi and the kids.  They only live about 20 minutes from us and we’re looking forward to getting together with them again really soon!

Here are all five of the kids:  Maggie, Abby, Elijah, Shelbi and Jack.  Maggie and Abby are the same age, and Jack and Shelbi are close in age too.  Finally!  Someone to give Jack a run for his money in the talking department!  He and Shelbi had a great time playing together, as did all the kids!

Heidi took this picture of our family.  Can you believe she got this shot in only one take?

Here’s Jack with his “puffy pumpkin.”  We made these at home last week with paper bags, shredded paper, some crayons, string and the stapler.  I intended them to be decorations, but they quickly evolved into necklaces!

Here’s Abby enjoying some pomegranates this morning.  I’m always amazed at how game she is to try new foods.  She doesn’t always like them, but she’ll try just about anything.  She gobbled quite a few of these up!

All done!  Isn’t she “Sweet?”  =)

This is Abby’s “dinosaur hair”, as Jack calls it.  Incredible what a little amount of shampoo and styling will do…We tried to give Jack dinosaur hair too, but as you can see, there’s just not much to work with.  Sorry, kid.

This is how bathtime usually ends - two cuties curled up in their towels!

Grandma and Grandpa B.

I stumbled across this picture of my grandparents today.  This was taken on their wedding day, September 11, 1943.  Aren’t they lovely?

Church Humor

Tim and I were in a mood this morning.  During church we were quite chatty.    Some Sundays we can sit nicely and quietly like the adults we are, and other Sundays, well, the whispered comments and jokes just fly.  Today was one of those days.

This morning the sermon in church was about spiritual gifts and serving one another.  It was really quite good.  The pastor was talking about how to serve one another in our day to day lives, so I leaned over to Tim to whisper an encouragement.  I told him, “You got up early this morning to get the kids dressed and ready to go.”  He whispers back,“Oh, then I’m done for the day?”

Funny boy.

Later on when the pastor was describing the many different types of spiritual gifts in the church, Tim leans over and tells me, “I’ve got the gift of criticism.”

We just snickered through the whole hour.  Some days you just don’t feel spiritual, you know?
